Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and cut the apples into bite-sized chunks.
In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the prepared apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Stir until the mixture starts bubbling.
Reduce the heat to low. Continue cooking, stirring often, until the apples have softened but still maintain some texture. This usually takes around 15 to 20 minutes.
Incorporate the raisins into the compote and simmer for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.
Remove the compote from heat. Serve it warm or hot. Cool any leftovers and store in the fridge for up to a week.
